Call for Sessions: Copenhagen 2021 LGBTI+ Human Rights Conference
by FCP Administrator | May 8, 2020 | Uncategorized
Copenhagen 2021 is hosting WorldPride and EuroGames in 2021. From Tuesday 17th until Thursday 19th August 2021 we are organizing a high-level three-day Human Rights Conference.
The conference will take place at the conference venue “Øksnehallen” in Copenhagen. Øksnehallen was originally built to house beef cattle, but today it is one of the city’s biggest authentic exhibition halls. The conference will be open for human rights defenders and activists, elected officials, academics, NGOs, media, sports leaders and Pride organizers in the field of LGBTI+ rights, and anybody else interested in the more in-depth LGBTI+ cause. Our goal is to include all representations under the LGBTI+-acronym in the program and to be highly aware of intersectionality in our planning. This for example includes representation in relation to geography, racialization, ethnicity, age, gender, functional diversity, gender identity, gender expression, sexuality and religion, amongst other examples. We will be starting the conference with a high-level plenary day, with a diverse group of world-renowned speakers, followed by two days of break-out meetings and discussions based on 10 different topics, ending with a closing and feedback plenary.
The conference is taking place within the broader Human Rights Forum, which will also feature our 1:1 Democracy Festival, the Inter-Parliamentary Plenary Assembly, a Summit on Refugees Borders and Immigration (taking place in Malmö) and a Copenhagen 2021 opening event.
Copenhagen 2021 welcomes proposals for the 10 thematic topics of the LGBTI+ Human Rights Conference in two rounds. This round is targeted towards our extended network and starts on Monday 4th May, 2020.
The Thematic Topics are:
1. Politics and Law
2. Education, Labor Market and Civil Society
3. Intersectionality and Global Trends
4. Borders, Decolonization and Racism
5. Technology and Online Communities
6. Arts, Sports and Culture
7. Pride as a global Human Rights Movement
8. Breaking the Binary
9. Sexual well-being and Health
10. Open for the undefined
If you feel your topic does not fall within the topics mentioned, feel free to use our tenth topic ’Open for the undefined’.
Session proposals must include a title, an abstract of max. 250 words and a presenter’s biography of max. 150 words. There is the opportunity to also attach a video of maximum two minutes presenting your proposal. Please include the full names and email addresses for each proposal presenter if known. Deadline for proposals is Monday 3rd August 2020.
The Human Rights committee will thoroughly review the proposals and the first round of decisions will be announced by 30th September, 2020. We highly recommend our community members to propose sessions not feeling limited in any way and we motivate people from different backgrounds, lived experiences and geographical locations to propose sessions.
Please indicate in your proposal if you wish to apply for a scholarship, details of which to be finalized and published on our website at a later stage. Limited scholarships for applicants from challenging regions or with limited financial means whilst not guaranteed, will be available based on Copenhagen 2021 predetermined criteria decided by the Human Rights Committee and in line with funders requirements. If your proposal application is accepted for presentation, the presenter must attend Copenhagen 2021 to present so please indicate on your application if you will be self-funded or will require scholarship assistance. Successful proposal presenters who are not scholarship recipients will be required to fund in full their own attendance at Copenhagen 2021 (including registration and travel and accommodation expenses) and should not accept an offer to present a proposal if this is not possible. All accepted proposals may be published by the organisers of Copenhagen 2021 so by submitting a proposal you certify that the contents of your proposal and your session are your own original work.
All successful proposal applicants will require registration. All proposal applications will be reviewed, scored and accepted or rejected by the Copenhagen 2021 Human Rights Committee with all inherent rights reserved. The decision of Copenhagen 2021 Human Rights Committee is final.
The fees have been set at the following rate and registration starts on 20th August, 2020:
